Foundayo is a once-daily weight management tablet containing orforglipron. It was approved by the MHRA on 10 August 2026, making the UK the first country in Europe to authorise it.
How it works
Orforglipron is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It works on the same pathway as Mounjaro and Wegovy — reducing appetite, increasing feelings of fullness and slowing gastric emptying, so you eat less and feel satisfied for longer.
What makes it different is its chemistry. Orforglipron is a non-peptide small molecule, which means it's stable in the stomach without needing a special coating or an absorption enhancer. That's why it has no food or water restrictions.
How to take it
One tablet daily, at any time of day, with or without food, and with no restriction on how much water you drink.
Try to take it at roughly the same time each day. Beyond that, it's designed to fit around your routine.
This is the main practical difference from the Wegovy pill, which must be taken first thing on an empty stomach with no more than 120ml of water and nothing else for 30 minutes afterwards.
Doses
Foundayo is titrated gradually to reduce side effects:
- 0.8mg — starting dose
- 2.5mg
- 5.5mg
- 9mg
- 14.5mg
- 17.2mg — maximum dose
Each step is held for at least 30 days before increasing. Not everyone goes to the maximum dose — your prescriber will review your progress and side effects and decide what's right for you.
How effective is it?
In the ATTAIN-1 clinical trial, adults taking the highest dose lost an average of around 12% of their body weight over 72 weeks.
For comparison, trials of Mounjaro have shown around 20%+ at the highest doses, and the Wegovy injection around 15%. Foundayo produces less weight loss on average than the injections, and the trade-off is convenience.
Who is it for?
Foundayo is licensed for adults with:
- A BMI of 30 or above, or
- A BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related health condition, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes or obstructive sleep apnoea
It's also licensed to improve blood sugar control in adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes.
It works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity — not instead of them.
Common side effects
The most common are nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion and abdominal pain. These are typical of GLP-1 medication and usually settle as your body adjusts, which is why the dose is increased gradually.
If side effects are troubling you or don't settle, contact us and our prescriber will review your treatment.
Things to know
- Foundayo shouldn't be taken alongside another GLP-1 medication
- It's a prescription-only medicine and can't be bought over the counter
- It isn't available on the NHS — that would require a separate NICE review
- Despite both being made by Eli Lilly, Foundayo is not a tablet form of Mounjaro. They're different molecules and work differently
