To prescribe Saxenda safely, our prescribers assess every patient individually. Eligibility is based on UK clinical guidelines.
Core eligibility
- Aged 18 or over
- BMI of 30 or above, or
- BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related health condition (type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, high cholesterol, or joint pain caused by weight)
- Patients of South Asian, Chinese, or other ethnically minoritised backgrounds may qualify at a slightly lower BMI threshold
- UK resident with a UK delivery address
When Saxenda might be recommended
Saxenda is taken as a daily injection, so it may suit patients who:
- Prefer a daily routine over a weekly injection
- Are not suitable for Mounjaro or Wegovy due to clinical reasons
- Want to start with a more established GLP-1 medication
Who Saxenda is not suitable for
Saxenda is not prescribed if you:
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive
- Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN-2 syndrome
- Have a history of pancreatitis
- Have severe gastrointestinal disease
- Have an active eating disorder
- Have type 1 diabetes (some exceptions — please discuss)
