What are the common side effects of Wegovy?

Most side effects from Wegovy are mild to moderate and tend to settle as your body adjusts. They are most common during the early weeks and after each dose increase.

Most common

  • Nausea — the most frequently reported side effect
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Reduced appetite — part of how the medication works
  • Tiredness
  • Reflux or indigestion
  • Injection site reactions — redness, itching, or small lumps

Less common

  • Dizziness
  • Hair thinning (linked to rapid weight loss, not the medication directly)
  • Gallbladder problems
  • Changes to taste

How to manage them

  • Eat smaller portions, more often
  • Avoid fatty, fried, or rich foods — these are the biggest nausea triggers
  • Stay well hydrated — sip water through the day
  • Eat slowly and stop when you feel full
  • Try ginger tea or ginger biscuits for nausea
